Typically, cabinets are the anchor/foundation for the kitchen or bathroom vanity. But WALL tile is what you see when you walk in and your eye is drawn to it, especially if it’s colorful or unique. There is definitely a relationship between the cabinets, the countertop and the tile. Only one of those design elements can be the star of the show!

The Stainless Door
Elevate your kitchen's aesthetic with the timeless appeal of stainless steel doors. They not only maintain optimal temperature for your food and drinks, but also add a touch of sleek sophistication.
These doors are made of High Pressure Laminate (HPL) that mimics the appearance of stainless steel, but without the hefty price tag or maintenance hassle.
We asked Kesia about her design style, a recent Kokeena project, and her journey from freelancer to owner.
We have many partners we work with, from designers to installers, to make sure you fall in love with your new kitchen or bathroom.
And, it’s time to highlight them!
Quality, quality, quality
We use solid wood frames for our shaker doors with an elaborate painted process—primed, then painted, then clear coated. And unlike other products that use MDF doors with thermally fused laminate, our cabinet doors look and feel better, are easy to clean, and, if damaged or chipped, can be easily repaired or touched up.
Kokeena planned the new layout for the kitchen and helped worked through scarcity issues while sharing design knowledge and tips. The outcome? A gorgeous house freshly staged and, on the market, immediately—and quickly sold! It’s now someone’s forever home and one that they are definitely loving.
An amazing mid-century Palm Springs home built by a popular architect had its kitchen remuddled (while the rest of the home stayed intact) during the 80s, but was brought back to life in all its mid-century glory, with Kokeena as the centerpiece.
Background
Created in 2015, Light and Dwell Interiors is a full-service residential design studio based in Corvallis, Oregon. Last year they decided to expand with more space for the team to gather and collaborate. Though the design studio is national and does work virtually, they still needed a home base office for materials, samples, and conference meetings.
The office design heavily reflects the Light and Dwell aesthetic, one that celebrates the beauty and function of each space. Drawing upon Old-World influences they create spaces that feel both elevated but familiar to clients. With respect to classic beauty and the patina of well-worn pieces, they blend old and new to tell their client’s story. They balance a reverence for items that have stood the test of time with a passion for innovation.
Challenges and solutions
However, there was a challenge: they needed several unique types of storage to hold all of their samples and design inspiration. They weren’t sure how it was going to all fit into the space, especially since they couldn’t go the full custom route, either.
Kokeena not only helped them solve the storage puzzle, but they also helped elevate the style of the office and create a more custom look they wouldn’t have been able to achieve otherwise. This was accomplished with Kokeena’s Modern English shaker door in Folkstone that gave them a space that was organic, European-inspired, and most importantly functional.
Results
They were able to use Kokeena on the project, not only to make their storage more customized but also to meet their unique aesthetic using a handful of vintage pieces to help tell their story—complemented with Kokeena’s products.
“Once we gave Kokeena our dimensions, the ordering process was so quick and easy. They are pros at what they do and have made the process so much easier than I expected,” says Light and Dwell’s Lauren Royster. “And let me tell you how many inquires we’ve gotten about the color. Everyone loves it, it’s the perfect neutral.”
Additional partners on the project: Rejuvenation, McGee & Co., Loloi Rugs, The Citizenry, Appointed, Whiskey and Clay, Ratio.

From drab to blue: Kokeena helps upgrade kitchen
Gena Smith, owner, NorthSide Kitchen Designs, was approached by owners of an old farmhouse near Chicago who wanted an organic, modern, sleek transitional primary bathroom without adding new square footage.
The homeowner’s vision was realized: a kitchen with a light, simple, clean, uncluttered look without feeling harsh and cold, complemented with minimal hardware, and a cooktop with no knobs and a pop-up hidden vent. The refrigerator is fully integrated into a storage wall as is the dishwasher, while the electrical outlet is a hidden pop-up with nothing visible on the tile backsplash.
Before you embark on your own bathroom remodel, you need to consider some important steps along the way. Here are four that our own Aaron Gray has put together to help walk you through your exciting project.
The Modernist (plain sawn), and its off-menu cousin The Ultramodernist (rift cut), has always been one of our top sellers. Walnut just never seems to go out of style. But, lately we've felt like our walnut doors weren't quite hitting the mark anymore.
Here's another spectacular installation of Kokeena doors. I know I sound like a broken record, but this is why I love what I do. I love that a product we create plays such a big part in pulling off design this good.
One of my favorite things about IKEA's SEKTION kitchen cabinet system is the fact that you can use it anywhere, not just the kitchen. A recent project by THE Creative in Chicago is a great example.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by the design process, engaging a designer can be money well spent. Check out this project from IKD - Inspired Kitchen Design.
